On the day

What you'll lift.

Real strongman events, not gym filler. Same kit you'd see at a Britain's Strongest qualifier — just run with mates, beer, and a bucket on the door.

Atlas StonesLoaded onto a 48" pillar. Heavier as you go up.
Log Lift to RepsClean once, press for max reps in the time cap.
Arm-Over-Arm Pull20 m of rope, hand over hand. Lungs burning by metre 12.
Yoke into Duck WalkCarry it, drop it, switch to the duck — fastest medley wins.
Axle DeadliftThick handle, no straps unless the comp says otherwise.
Farmer's WalkHeavy in each hand, walk till you drop them.
Truck / Vehicle PullWhen the venue allows it. Sponsor truck on a strap.
Stones of StrengthLoading races. Old-school finale.

Why we do this

Every prize fund. Every pound on the door. Straight to the cause.

Bad Company doesn't take a penny from prize money. Entry fees cover the kit hire and the hot food at the end of the day — everything else gets handed over in a cheque on the podium. The athletes lift, the crowd watches, the charity gets paid.

A different cause picked for every comp. Past Bad Company pulls have raised for Sands (in memory of Ruby), St Pier's School, Momentum Children's Charity and local hardship funds. The next push — The Big Pull, 25 July at Horley Town FC — is raising for the NICU at East Surrey Hospital, Ten Little Toes Baby Bank, and Can't Afford To Be Ill, with sponsorship from Britaniacrest Recycling, AStar Tattoos, Hair by Laura-Jane, Kizz Fitness, GRS Roadstone and Horley Town FC. PETER HIBBERD
Who's behind it

Run by Peter Hibberd — one bloke, a load of mates, and a borrowed flatbed.

Peter started Bad Company in his back garden with a stone trainer, an old keg and a charity tin. A few comps in, the calendar started filling itself — gyms wanting hosts, athletes wanting platforms, charities wanting cheques. Two years on, the comps are bigger, but the rule hasn't changed: all prize money goes to the cause.

When he's not loading stones into the back of the van at 6am, he's coaching novice lifters through their first log clean — which is where the strongman classes (coming soon, see below) came from.

Coming soon

Strongman classes.

Want to learn the events properly — atlas stones, log press, yoke walk, axle deadlift — under coaching that's actually competed? We're opening structured strongman classes shortly. No big chest-beating. Just the basics, drilled until they stick.

  • Beginner-friendly — bring 0 experience, leave with a clean log clean
  • Small group sizes (max 6 lifters per coach)
  • Held at a real strongman gym, not a Pure Gym corner
  • Pay-as-you-go — no sneaky 12-month contract
